This story-song is a reminder of the disrespect those who served in the military during the Vietnam War endured. Some were subjected to public ridicule and unjustly called “baby killers” by ungrateful fellow citizens. The verses, “Prayer for the boy, praise for the man. Johnny threw stones, than hid his hands”, calls out the “ungrateful citizens” of that era that now hypocritically masquerade behind the popularity of “thanking those in uniform for their service”. A quote from the book, “The Ether Zone” by Robert C. Morris sums it up: “Not everyone who lost his life in Vietnam died there. Not everyone who came home from Vietnam ever left there.“

Lyrics

Pray For Levi

Levi screams, across the sky
He twists and turns, to wave goodbye
Levi falls, he falls from grace
Poor Levi’s gone, without a trace

Once upon a life, he had a very good time
Flew off hypnotized, across the blue sky
Made his last call in the middle of the night
Off to a fight in the cold gray light
Now pray

Levi fell, and is laid to rest
This restless soul, sleeps with the blessed
Since Levi’s gone, his free life fades
It slips away, each fading day

Once upon a lie at the end of the war
Levi’s mesmerized, sees the bad signs
Roamed through the dark and hiding in the light
Laid it on the line, as he fought the good fight
Now pray

Prayer for the boy, praise for the man
Johnny threw stones, then hid his hands
Trace Levi’s streak, across the sky
For Levi pray, and wave goodbye

Once upon a time he had a very good life
Flew off hypnotized, across the blue sky
Made his last call in the middle of the night
Off to a fight in the cold gray light
Now pray, pray, pray
